Overview
De Forville’s Barbaresco 2019 is a classic expression of Nebbiolo from the prestigious Barbaresco appellation. Produced by the historic De Forville estate, which has been crafting wines since 1860, this wine embodies the elegance, structure, and complexity that define the region. The 2019 vintage was marked by optimal growing conditions, yielding a well-balanced and expressive wine with excellent aging potential.
Vinification and Aging
- Fermentation: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel
- Maceration: Extended skin contact for approximately 15-20 days
- Aging: Aged for 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by additional bottle aging before release
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Bright ruby red with garnet reflections.
Aroma: A refined bouquet of red cherries, violets, dried roses, and subtle hints of tobacco and spice.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied with vibrant acidity and firm tannins. Flavors of redcurrant, raspberry, and licorice unfold alongside earthy undertones and a touch of leather.
Finish: Long and persistent, with a mineral-driven elegance and lingering spice.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with truffle-infused dishes, braised meats, risotto, and aged cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano or Pecorino. Also excellent with roasted game and traditional Piemontese fare.
Serving Recommendations
- Serving Temperature: 16-18°C (61-64°F)
- Decanting: Recommended for at least 1 hour to enhance aromatics and soften tannins
- Glassware: Best served in a Burgundy or Nebbiolo glass for optimal expression
Aging Potential
This Barbaresco has a strong aging capacity, developing greater complexity over 10-15 years. With time, it will reveal more tertiary notes of dried fruit, forest floor, and spice, further enhancing its depth.
