Overview
Paolo Bea’s "Arboreus" is an extraordinary expression of Trebbiano Spoletino, an indigenous grape from Umbria. Sourced from old vines trained on trees (hence the name "Arboreus"), this skin-contact white wine is a true reflection of natural winemaking. Crafted with extended maceration and aging, it develops remarkable depth, structure, and complexity, showcasing Bea’s signature rustic elegance.
Vinification and Aging
- Fermentation: Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks.
- Maceration: Extended skin contact for approximately 3 weeks, enhancing texture and aromatic intensity.
- Aging: Aged on the lees in stainless steel for up to 2 years, followed by additional time in bottle before release.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Deep golden amber with a slight hazy texture due to minimal filtration.
- Aroma: Intense aromas of dried apricot, honey, orange peel, chamomile, and hints of wild herbs and spice.
- Palate: Rich and textured with vibrant acidity. Layers of ripe stone fruits, citrus zest, and earthy undertones create depth and complexity.
- Finish: Long and persistent, marked by a pleasant tannic grip, dried fruit notes, and a lingering minerality.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with aged cheeses, roasted poultry, truffle-infused dishes, and hearty vegetarian cuisine. Its structure also complements rich seafood preparations and umami-driven flavors.
Serving Recommendations
- Serving Temperature: 12–14°C (54–57°F) to enhance texture and aromatics.
- Decanting: Recommended for at least 30–45 minutes to allow the wine to fully express its complexity.
Aging Potential
With its robust structure and natural acidity, "Arboreus" has excellent aging potential, developing further complexity over 10–15 years.
