Overview

Oddero "Brunate" Barolo DOCG 2013 is an exceptional Barolo crafted from the prestigious Brunate vineyard, located in one of the most renowned areas of the Langhe. The 2013 vintage exemplifies the harmony between power and elegance that defines Barolo. With its characteristic Nebbiolo aromas and robust tannic structure, this wine is both approachable in its youth and built to age gracefully. It is a refined, complex expression of the terroir and showcases the winemaking expertise of the Oddero family, one of the most respected producers in the region.

Vinification and Aging

  • Fermentation: The grapes were hand-harvested and rigorously sorted before undergoing fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The fermentation process was carefully monitored to preserve the fruit’s natural aromas and ensure optimal extraction of color, tannins, and flavors.
  • Aging: Following fermentation, the wine spent 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, which allowed the wine to integrate the tannins and develop complexity. The wine was then bottle-aged for an additional 12 months, ensuring that it was well-rounded and ready for release while still maintaining potential for further aging.
  • Bottling: The wine was bottled without fining or filtration, ensuring that it retained its natural purity and character.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: The wine has a deep, vibrant garnet color, with subtle orange hues at the rim, indicating its aging potential.
  • Aroma: The nose is expressive, with rich aromas of ripe red berries, dried roses, and a hint of violet. Over time, the wine develops additional aromas of earthy truffles, tobacco, and leather, with a touch of spice from the oak.
  • Palate: On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and well-structured, with firm, yet polished tannins. The flavors are complex, featuring dark fruit, such as cherries and blackberries, intertwined with floral notes, earthy undertones, and a delicate minerality. The finish is long, with lingering notes of dried fruit, spice, and a touch of licorice.

Food Pairing

This Barolo pairs wonderfully with hearty, flavorful dishes like braised meats, roasted lamb, and slow-cooked stews. It is also an excellent match for truffle dishes, wild mushrooms, or aged cheeses such as Pecorino, Asiago, or Parmigiano Reggiano.

Serving Recommendations

  • Serving Temperature: Best served at 18°C (64°F) to bring out its full range of aromas and flavors.
  • Decanting: Decanting is recommended, particularly for older vintages, to help the wine open up and soften the tannins.

Aging Potential

The Oddero "Brunate" Barolo DOCG 2013 has excellent aging potential. It is expected to mature beautifully over the next 10–15 years, with an optimal drinking window between 2025 and 2040. The wine will continue to develop complexity and nuance as it ages.
