Overview
Oddero "Brunate" Barolo DOCG 2015 is a remarkable expression of Nebbiolo from one of the most esteemed vineyards in the Barolo region, Brunate. Known for producing wines with great structure and aging potential, the Brunate vineyard provides the ideal environment for Nebbiolo to flourish, with its steep slopes and optimal exposure. This vintage showcases the elegance and complexity that Barolo is renowned for, offering a fine balance of ripe fruit, floral notes, and earthy nuances, all framed by the tannins that will enable it to age beautifully over time.
Vinification and Aging
- Fermentation: The hand-picked Nebbiolo grapes were fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve their fresh fruit character while allowing for optimal extraction of tannins and color.
- Aging: Following fermentation, the wine spent 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, which added subtle oak flavors while allowing the fruit to remain the focus. The wine was then aged for an additional 12 months in bottle, helping it to integrate and further develop its complexity.
- Bottling: As with all Oddero wines, this Barolo was bottled without fining or filtration to preserve its natural purity and expression.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: The wine presents a deep, ruby-red color, transitioning to garnet at the rim, indicative of its age and aging potential.
- Aroma: The nose is rich and complex, with initial aromas of red cherries, roses, and dried herbs. Over time, the wine opens up to reveal deeper, earthy notes of tobacco, leather, and truffle, complemented by a hint of spice and subtle oak influence.
- Palate: On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with firm tannins and a vibrant acidity that gives it excellent aging potential. The flavors are an elegant combination of dark fruit—like blackberries and plums—intertwined with floral, earthy, and spicy elements. The finish is long, with lingering notes of dried fruit, leather, and a touch of licorice.
Food Pairing
This Barolo is ideal for pairing with rich, flavorful dishes such as braised meats, roasted lamb, or wild game. It also pairs excellently with hearty stews, truffle-based dishes, and aged cheeses like Pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano.
Serving Recommendations
- Serving Temperature: Best served at 18°C (64°F) to highlight its aromas and flavors.
- Decanting: Decanting is recommended, especially for older bottles, to help the wine open up and soften the tannins.
Aging Potential
The Oddero "Brunate" Barolo DOCG 2015 is a wine built to age, with a drinking window that stretches from 2025 to 2040 and beyond. The tannic structure and acidity ensure that it will continue to evolve and improve with age.
