Overview
Luigi Ferrando’s "Etichetta Bianca" Carema 2013 is a stunning expression of Nebbiolo from the dramatic alpine terroir of Carema in Northern Piedmont. Crafted by one of the region’s most renowned producers, this wine showcases the elegance, minerality, and finesse that the Carema appellation is known for. The 2013 vintage, marked by a long and steady growing season, has resulted in a beautifully balanced and age-worthy wine.
Vinification and Aging
- Fermentation: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel
- Maceration: Extended skin contact for approximately 20-25 days
- Aging: Aged for around 36 months in large neutral oak casks, followed by additional bottle aging before release
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Medium garnet with a translucent core and slight brick hues at the rim.
Aroma: Delicate yet complex, featuring aromas of dried roses, crushed red berries, mountain herbs, tar, and a subtle smoky minerality.
Palate: Elegant and structured, with fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Layers of cherry, wild strawberry, licorice, and earthy notes evolve gracefully on the palate.
Finish: Long and refined, with a persistent minerality and a touch of spice.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with classic Piemontese cuisine such as vitello tonnato, tajarin pasta with truffle, and braised meats. Also excellent with aged cheeses and game dishes.
Serving Recommendations
- Serving Temperature: 16-18°C (61-64°F)
- Decanting: Recommended for at least 1 hour to enhance aromatic complexity
- Glassware: Best enjoyed in a Burgundy or Nebbiolo glass to highlight its elegance
Aging Potential
This Carema has excellent aging potential, capable of evolving gracefully for 15-20 years. With time, it will develop additional tertiary notes of dried fruit, forest floor, and spice, further enhancing its depth and complexity.
