Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin with Brazilian Pineapple is an exciting and tropical twist on the original Gunpowder Irish Gin from The Shed Distillery in County Leitrim, Ireland. This expression fuses the signature gunpowder green tea and oriental botanicals of the brand with the sweet-tangy essence of Brazilian pineapple, resulting in a vibrant, layered gin that captures both exotic flair and refined botanical complexity.

Production Process

  • Ingredients: Begins with the base of the original Gunpowder Irish Gin — including juniper, meadowsweet, caraway, and the gunpowder tea leaves — then enhanced with Brazilian pineapple and fresh citrus botanicals.

  • Distillation Technique: Distilled slowly in copper pot stills at The Shed Distillery, with botanicals introduced partly through vapor infusion to capture delicate flavors and aromas.

  • Proofing: Bottled at 43% ABV to preserve the character and intensity of the botanicals and pineapple notes.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Crystal-clear with a slight golden shimmer when swirled, typical of a well-distilled gin.

  • Aroma: Bright citrus top notes lead, with a backdrop of green tea and herbal juniper. The touch of Brazilian pineapple subtly emerges, lending a tropical sweetness without overwhelming the botanical base.

  • Palate: Crisp and medium-bodied, starting with juniper and botanical spice, transitioning to green tea tannin and pineapple tang. The finish offers warming spice, herbal depth, and a lingering tropical note that balances the dryness.

Serving & Pairing

  • Serving Temperature: Best served chilled or over ice.

  • Glassware: A tulip-shaped gin glass or stemmed copa works well to concentrate the aromas.

  • Garnish Suggestion: Use a slice of pineapple, grapefruit zest, or a fresh mint sprig to complement the pineapple and citrus notes.

  • Pairing: Works beautifully in a premium gin & tonic (premium tonic water & large ice cube), or in a cocktail with pineapple juice, lime, and maybe a hint of bitters. Also pairs with grilled prawns, tropical ceviche, or spicy Asian dishes where the pineapple and botanical interplay elevate the aromas.

Aging Potential

This gin is crafted for immediate enjoyment. While gin doesn’t evolve significantly like wine, for best freshness of the pineapple botanical and green-tea character, consume within 2-3 years of bottling.
