Overview

The 2008 Lupi & Sirene Brunello di Montalcino Riserva represents the pinnacle of Podere Le Ripi’s winemaking expertise. Crafted from meticulously farmed, biodynamic vineyards, this Riserva reflects the elegance and complexity of the vintage, shaped by a cooler growing season. The result is a refined, structured Brunello with impressive depth and a long aging potential.

Vinification and Aging

  • Fermentation: Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in open-top wooden vats.
  • Maceration: Extended maceration of approximately 50 days to extract depth and structure.
  • Aging: Aged for 48 months in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by extensive bottle aging before release.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep ruby red with garnet reflections, indicative of its evolution.
  • Aroma: Complex and layered, with aromas of red and black cherries, dried roses, and crushed violets. Earthy undertones of forest floor, tobacco, and truffle emerge, along with hints of cedar and baking spice.
  • Palate: Elegant yet powerful, featuring a vibrant acidity that enhances flavors of ripe red berries, licorice, and dark chocolate. The tannins are firm yet polished, contributing to a refined structure.
  • Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering notes of spice, dried herbs, and a touch of balsamic complexity.

Food Pairing

This Brunello Riserva pairs beautifully with slow-roasted lamb, wild boar ragù, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, and dishes featuring black truffle. It also complements rich, braised meats and hearty stews.

Serving Recommendations

  • Serving Temperature: 18–20°C (64–68°F).
  • Decanting: Recommended for at least 2 hours to allow full aromatic expression.

Aging Potential

This 2008 Lupi & Sirene Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is already showing remarkable complexity but will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years, developing deeper tertiary notes and enhanced elegance.
