Gulfi "NeroMàccarj" 2014 is a powerful and refined expression of Nero d'Avola from the prestigious Maccarj vineyard in Pachino, Sicily. This single-vineyard wine exemplifies the richness and complexity that the region's limestone and clay soils impart, producing a deeply structured yet elegantly balanced red. With its layered aromas, robust tannins, and remarkable aging potential, "NeroMaccarj" stands as a true representation of Sicilian terroir and artisanal winemaking.

Vinification and Aging

  • Fermentation: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve purity and varietal character.
  • Aging: Matured for approximately 24 months in a combination of large Slavonian oak casks and French barriques, integrating tannins while enhancing depth and complexity.
  • Bottling: Bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfur addition to maintain authenticity and expressiveness.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep garnet red with brilliant ruby reflections.
  • Aroma: Intense and captivating, with aromas of black cherry, ripe plums, and dried figs, complemented by layers of tobacco, dark chocolate, licorice, and Mediterranean herbs.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and structured, displaying a harmonious interplay of rich dark fruit, vibrant acidity, and firm yet polished tannins. Subtle earthy and balsamic undertones add further depth.
  • Finish: Long and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of spice, mineral notes, and dried fruit.
