Overview

Gulfi "NeroSanloré" 2014 is a remarkable expression of Nero d'Avola from the prestigious Sanloré vineyard in Sicily. This wine showcases the depth and complexity that can be achieved when old vines are grown in the ideal conditions of the region. With its intense fruit character, balanced acidity, and elegant tannins, "NeroSanloré" stands as a prime example of the potential of Sicily's indigenous varietals. It offers a perfect balance between power and finesse, making it an excellent choice for both immediate enjoyment and long-term aging.

Vinification and Aging

  • Fermentation: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, allowing for the preservation of fresh fruit character and enhancing complexity.
  • Aging: Aged for 18–24 months in a combination of large Slavonian oak casks and French barriques, which impart structure and subtle spice while integrating the fruit and tannins harmoniously.
  • Bottling: Bottled unfiltered to maintain the wine's authenticity and purity, with minimal sulfur added.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep ruby red with garnet hues, showing signs of its age and further development.
  • Aroma: Rich and complex, with aromas of black cherries, dried plums, and ripe figs, accented by earthy notes of tobacco, leather, and herbs. Hints of vanilla and spice from the oak aging are evident.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and structured, with a perfect balance of acidity and firm tannins. Flavors of dark fruits, blackberries, and a touch of balsamic lead to a round and rich mouthfeel.
  • Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering flavors of dark fruit, spices, and earthy nuances.

Food Pairing

"NeroSanloré" pairs beautifully with a variety of rich and flavorful dishes. It is an excellent match for grilled meats, lamb, roasted pork, and game. The wine also complements robust pasta dishes such as ragù, as well as aged cheeses like Pecorino or Parmigiano-Reggiano.

Serving Recommendations

  • Serving Temperature: Best served at 18–20°C (64–68°F) to allow the full range of aromas and flavors to unfold.
  • Decanting: Recommended for at least an hour to enhance its aromatic complexity and soften the tannins.

Aging Potential

With its powerful structure and well-integrated acidity, "NeroSanloré" 2014 has excellent aging potential. It will continue to evolve and improve over the next 15–20 years, developing additional tertiary characteristics such as leather, dried flowers, and a more integrated texture, making it a perfect wine for cellaring.
