Overview
Scarpa "Tettimora" Barolo 2019 is an elegant expression of Barolo, showcasing the mastery of one of the Langhe’s historical producers. Sourced from the Tettimora vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba, the wine represents the region's potential for creating wines of both intensity and finesse. With its complex structure, fine tannins, and deep, layered flavors, this Barolo offers a compelling balance of power and grace, making it an excellent candidate for both current enjoyment and long-term aging.
Vinification and Aging
- Fermentation: The wine undergoes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh fruit aromas. The maceration process is carefully managed to extract the desired color and tannins from the Nebbiolo grapes.
- Aging: After fermentation, the wine is aged for around 30 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, which help integrate the fruit and oak components while allowing the wine to develop depth and complexity.
- Bottling: The wine is bottled with minimal intervention, unfiltered, to maintain its integrity and ensure it continues to evolve gracefully in the bottle.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Brilliant ruby red with garnet reflections, indicative of its youth and aging potential.
- Aroma:Enticing bouquet of red cherries, roses, and dried herbs. Subtle earthy notes, with hints of tobacco, leather, and spices emerging as the wine breathes.
- Palate: Rich and full-bodied, with a perfect balance of acidity and tannins. Flavors of ripe red fruit, such as cherry and raspberry, intertwined with earthy notes, tobacco, and a touch of vanilla from the oak aging. Firm yet velvety tannins, providing a structured and smooth mouthfeel.
- Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering flavors of dark fruit, spice, and subtle mineral undertones.
Food Pairing
"Scarpa Tettimora" Barolo pairs beautifully with a wide range of rich, flavorful dishes. It complements roasted meats, game, and hearty stews, as well as truffle-based pasta and risottos. Aged cheeses, especially hard cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano, also make an excellent pairing.
Serving Recommendations
- Serving Temperature: Best served at 18–20°C (64–68°F) to bring out its full complexity and allow its flavors to evolve in the glass.
- Decanting: Decanting is recommended for at least an hour, especially for younger bottles, to enhance the aromas and soften the tannins.
Aging Potential
Scarpa "Tettimora" Barolo 2019 has impressive aging potential, with the ability to develop further over the next 15–20 years, reaching its peak around 2035–2040. As it matures, the wine will develop greater complexity, with tertiary flavors of leather, earth, and dried fruit emerging alongside a smoother, more integrated texture.
