Overview
The Figli Luigi Oddero "Vignarionda" Barolo Riserva 2013 is an exceptional expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barolo’s most revered crus. Vignarionda, located in Serralunga d’Alba, is known for producing structured, age-worthy wines with remarkable depth and complexity. The 2013 vintage, characterized by a long and balanced growing season, has yielded a wine of great elegance, power, and longevity.
Vinification and Aging
- Fermentation: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks
- Maceration: Extended maceration on the skins for about 40-50 days
- Aging: Aged for a minimum of 42 months in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by additional bottle aging before release
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Deep garnet red with brilliant ruby reflections.
Aroma: Intense and complex, with notes of dried roses, red cherries, liquorice, tar, and hints of tobacco and sweet spices.
Palate: Full-bodied and structured, with firm yet refined tannins. Layers of ripe red berries, earthy undertones, balsamic hints, and a touch of leather unfold with remarkable precision.
Finish: Long and persistent, with an elegant balance of acidity, tannins, and minerality.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with braised meats, truffle-infused dishes, aged cheeses, and rich pasta dishes such as tajarin with ragù. The wine’s complexity complements game meats and hearty stews.
Serving Recommendations
- Serving Temperature: 16-18°C (61-64°F)
- Decanting: Decant for at least 2 hours before serving to fully express its aromatic depth
- Glassware: Use a large Burgundy or Nebbiolo glass to enhance aeration and complexity
Aging Potential
This Barolo Riserva has outstanding aging potential, capable of evolving gracefully for 25+ years. Over time, it will develop tertiary aromas of dried fruit, forest floor, and spice, further enhancing its elegance and depth.
