Overview
San Felice "Vigorello" 2015 is a bold and structured Super Tuscan, representing one of the earliest examples of non-traditional blends in Tuscany. First produced in 1968, Vigorello has evolved over the years into a sophisticated Bordeaux-style blend while maintaining its Tuscan identity. The 2015 vintage, marked by optimal weather conditions, delivers power, depth, and balance, making it a standout expression of this historic wine.
Vinification and Aging
- Fermentation: Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs.
- Maceration: Extended skin contact for enhanced extraction of color and tannins.
- Aging: Aged for 24 months in French oak barriques, followed by additional bottle aging before release.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Deep ruby red with garnet highlights.
- Aroma: Intense and complex, offering ripe blackberries, cassis, and dark cherries, interwoven with hints of tobacco, cedar, and sweet spices.
- Palate: Full-bodied and structured, with firm yet velvety tannins. Layers of dark fruit, mocha, graphite, and subtle herbal notes unfold with remarkable elegance.
- Finish: Long and persistent, leaving impressions of spice, balsamic undertones, and dark chocolate.
Food Pairing
This powerful red pairs well with grilled ribeye steaks, roasted game meats, aged Pecorino cheese, and slow-braised short ribs. Its depth and structure also complement rich pasta dishes with truffle or wild boar ragù.
Serving Recommendations
- Serving Temperature: 16–18°C (61–64°F) to bring out the wine’s complexity.
- Decanting: Recommended for at least 1 hour to enhance aromatics and soften tannins.
Aging Potential
The 2015 Vigorello has excellent aging potential, capable of evolving gracefully for 10–15 years, developing greater complexity and finesse over time.
